Cemetery Overview
The Presidio of Monterey (Presidio) Main Post Cemetery is one of the most beautiful Army Post cemeteries across the nation. The Presidio Main Post Cemetery was originally established in the vicinity of the installation's prior Post Headquarters, now Building 277. Those originally interred there were moved to the cemetery at the Presidio of San Francisco. The new Presidio Cemetery was established at its current location in 1904 and has served the post and community ever since. The cemetery was rededicated on May 29th, 2010 following a major restoration effort by the POM garrison command office. The restoration efforts consisted of headstone realignment, sprinkler installations, and a major landscaping refurbishment; making it one of the most efficient cemeteries. The number of visitors the cemetery receives and the events that regularly take place there are a testament to the continued strong ties with the community and honor we should bestow to our long fallen veterans. Launch Army Cemeteries Explorer for Presidio of Monterey Main Post Cemetery here to locate a gravesite.
