Fort Benning was re-designated as Fort Moore on May 11, 2023. The Fort Moore Main Post Cemetery is a United States Army post cemetery located outside the city of Columbus, GA. Fort Moore recognizes Hal Moore's life as a decorated and highly regarded commander of the Vietnam War and his wife, Julie Moore, who was equally distinguished as a leader of Army family programs who changed how the military cares for the widows of fallen Soldiers. One of the largest Army Post cemeteries, Fort Moore is an open cemetery that averages about 169 interments per year. As of May 2023, the 8.38 acre cemetery is the final resting place of over 11,000 of our nation's soldiers including (3) Medal of Honor awardees and their dependents. The cemetery is also the final resting place of 4 Chinese allied pilots, 7 Italian and 44 German prisoners of war who died in captivity at various military camps nearby and brought to Fort Moore for burial during World War II. Information

When the cemetery is open managerial staff members can be found at the cemetery comfort station office located near the front entrance to the cemetery. Posted comfort station hours are Monday thru Friday 8 AM - 4:30 PM. Because the Fort Moore cemetery resides on an active U.S. Army installation all non-DoD, non-federally-affiliated visitors without proper government identification will need obtain prior approval for gate access. Visitors should review the most recent access information on the Fort Moore website at: https://www.moore.army.mil/GateInfo/index.html. The cemetery has paved parking available and is wheelchair accessible.

Hours

The cemetery is open daily from 8 AM - 5 PM daily, with extended hours on Memorial Day from 8 AM - 7 PM. Cemetery Comfort Station Office building hours are Monday thru Friday 8 AM - 4:30 PM.
