Cemetery Overview
The name Fort Leavenworth, in general conversation, usually brings with it images of the federal disciplinary barracks located on its grounds, even though the United States Army installation has a lot more to it then just the penetentary. Nevertheless, the Fort Leavenworth Post Cemetery (U.S. Disciplinary Barracks Cemetery), which is located on the installation, has just one purpose: to serve as the final resting place for those prisioners who died or were executed while incarcerated at the prison but who's remains were never claimed. Even though the U.S. Military personnel interred there did not depart from this world with the status of having served honorably, their final resting place is maintained with a high level of respect as Fort Leavenworth honors its military history.

One Cemetery Responsible Official from Fort Leavenworth, located in the state of Kansas, provides oversight and administrative support for all cemetery operations. Grounds maintenance for the Fort Leavenworth cemetery is performed by the Fort Leavenworth Directorate of Public Works. The Fort Leavenworth cemetery falls underneath the responsibility of Fort Leavenworth Garrison Command and the U.S. Army's Installation Management Command (IMCOM).
