Cemetery Overview

The Aberdeen Proving Ground Main Post Cemetery is located in Aberdeen, Maryland. The cemetery is part of the oldest active Military proving ground, Aberdeen Proving Ground, and was established on October 20, 1917 - six months after the U.S. entered World War I. The cemetery occupies just over a ½ acre of land. This cemetery does not possess a columbarium; all graves are in-ground gravesites. Although the cemetery is only open to subsequent interments, the interment average is one interment per year.

One Cemetery Responsible Official (CRO) located on Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) provides oversight and administrative support for all APG cemetery operations. Grounds maintenance for the APG cemetery is performed by the APG Directorate of Public Works department. The APG cemetery falls underneath the responsibility of APG Garrison Command and the U.S. Army's Installation Management Command (IMCOM). When the cemetery is open there are generally no staff members present. Because the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) cemetery resides on an active U.S. Army installation all non-DoD, non-federally-affiliated visitors without proper government identification should call ahead to the APG Directorate of Emergency Services at 410-306-2380 for information on how to properly obtain gate access to the installation before departing. The cemetery has very limited paved parking available and is wheelchair-accessible.
